Cinnamon ginger aches and pain tea for sore muscles

Sore Before loose leaf ginger cinnamon tea

My dad has suffered from severe back pain for the majority of my life. Unfortunately, he’s a giving man and I seemed to have inherited some painful attributes from him. On the plus side, that gives us the opportunity to share a cup of tea together!

Sore Beforeis for the broken man. My dad’s doctor recommends hot toddies for colds because, “Either it’ll cure your sickness, or you’ll forget you’re sick.” I used that logic to create a strong pain relieving tea, sans the Jack Daniels (sorry, Dad).

Ginger and cinnamon form a sweet and spicy mix, while chamomile and rose hips aid your aches and pains. Marshmallow root—THE anti-inflammatory herb—helps with inflammation, especially when mixed with ginger, and there’s a little bit of rosemary to keep the blood pumpin’. The “feel good” part of the tea is the merger of passionflower and skullcap, which is like a spa day for your nerves!

Booker T & the MG's Melting Pot Vinyl Tea Pairing

Vinyl Pairing: Booker T & the MG’s - Melting Pot (Stax Records, 1971)

You can’t go wrong with Booker T. & the MG’s on vinyl. The warm sound of the B-3 organ sets the mood immediately. Melting Pot is the last album they’d make for Stax, and an interesting one at that. For starters, it was made in New York, instead of Memphis where Booker grew tired of playing tight concise covers for the label. In New York, they diverted to stretched out funk originals, like the title track, which has been sampled dozens of times, including Big Daddy Kane’s “Set It Off.”

Further Listening: Booker T. Jones - The Road from Memphis (2011); Potato Hole (2009)
