A tasty cinnamon tea based on the Wu-Tang Clan

Brew Tang Forever loose leaf cinnamon sage wu-tang

Shaolin’s Finest is a cinnamon-sage blend good for gritty, wise individuals.

I was the Wu-Tang kid back in high school: all my presentations in English class were centered around Wu-Tang—including an in-depth critical analysis on Wu-Tang Forever—all while wearing a Wu-Wear jacket & kicks. The passion faded throughout the years, but the knowledge has not. Not every tea blender can make a true Wu blend inspired by the clan. Here’s my take with Shaolin’s Finest:

Rza – sage, since he’s the abbot of the group

Gza “The Genius” – gotu kola, a brain tonic

Ol’ Dirty Bastard – a little hops for the drunk monk

Inspectah Deck – lemon verbena, an underrated herb that’s great on posse tracks

Raekwon the Chef – rosemary, a culinary herb

U-God – suma root, a/k/a Brazilian Ginseng (in reference to his “sippin’ on ginseng” line in Triumph)

Ghostface Killah – strawberry leaf, great taste and a reference to his “strawberry kiwi” line in Apollo Kids)

Masta Killa – stinging nettle (the most Wu-Tang sounding herb), because the name alone sounds like a Masta Killa track

Finally, M.E.T.H.O.D. Man – cinnamon, the best flavor in the group and a sweet kick even mainstream fans enjoy!

The Rza Hits vinyl pairing wu-tang tea

Vinyl Pairing: Various Artists - The Rza Hits (Razor Sharp Records, 1999)

The Rza Hits compiles the best Wu-Tang tracks in Rza’s golden era (1993 - 1996). This offers an excellent introduction into the raw and gritty world of Wu-Tang, and provides decent guidance as to which solo album to check out next.

Further Listening: Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep (1994); Gza - Liquid Swords (1995)
